As a secret geek I loved this place! A good, well organised history of computing from Colossus to 80's business computing to the first personal computers. The staff are great with a real passion for the history of computing, they also currently have a working Bombe there with informative talks and demonstrations. Worth every penny of the admission cost. We will be back again
Great educational visit. Because of the value of the items, how precious they are and the size of the museum, when you book during the week with a big group you will be the only people there so you have the staff's undivided attention. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and get you thinking about some really interesting complex ideas.
In the era of information technology, it's easy to forget how much progress has been made in IT in the past few decades. This museum, whilst being housed in a few modest-looking blocks rather than a fancy building, took us right back to the beginning of the computing revolution. Being able to see (and feel the working of) the very first generations of computing equipment, and understand the historical context of their development (code breaking during WWII) in a location where these events actually took place, was fascinating. The stories told by museum staff/guides there made the experience all more interesting.
What an incredible place, I didn't expect it to be this jam packed with so many interesting areas. The volunteers, who are very knowledgeable and obviously doing this only for the passion, make this place a must see for anyone with an interest in computing, owned a computer, or want to hear and see what incredible things human beings have been capable (the code breaking achievements are astounding). Out of all museums, exhibitions, talks, this stands out as being one of the best. Such an array to lose hours in.There is too much to take in on one visit, I will return, 90 mins drive is well worth this.Big thank you to all the staff for being so friendly and helpful and taking the time to share stories, experience, and knowledge.
Absolute must if you're visiting Bletchley Park! Entry was just 4 and the staff goes into great detail how Colossus and Bombe were designed and the history behind them. The machines are functioning so you might even get to see a demo, the explanations can get quite technical if you ask! Part of the museum was closed but still totally worth the visit to see those legendary machines, the staff is super knowledgeable and really make it an experience.
